What is a WordPress Theme?
To put it simply, a WordPress theme is what gives your site its style and function. Basically a theme tells your WordPress website to look and behave a certain way. Your theme will include a whole slew of different files that are responsible for things such as building the site header, the footer, etc. One of the most important files in a theme is the stylesheet. This file controls the look of your custom WordPress website: colors, fonts, etc. WordPress themes can range from simple to extremely complex. They are usually written with particular needs in mind which is why there are so many available.
Custom WordPress Theme VS a Stock Theme
For the purposes of this article, we will refer to a stock theme as a “ready to use” theme that you purchase from a company or a developer and a custom WordPress theme as one built specifically for your website. This type of theme will be prebuilt with its own style and function and wasn’t personalized for your website. This also means that there are probably (many) other people out there running the same theme so your website won’t be unique. Conversely, a custom WordPress theme is a theme that was built for your website alone; it knows exactly how your website should look and behave and makes it do just that. It’s design helps differentiate you from the competition and is built with your particular branding in mind.
RSPONSIV Custom WordPress Themes
At RSPONSIV Web Serivces, we have yet to run into a situation where a stock theme has worked for a client. Our clients want something special, something different from the competition. And thats exactly what we give them: a custom WordPress theme tailored toward their brand and style. We start with a solid base theme, typically Genesis by StudioPress, which provides the core theme structure. Then we add responsive web design elements for mobile and tablet devices along with some style to make sure you stand out from the crowd. After all, you’re special and your website should be too!
